(TX) Support SB 121/HB 146, for the Adoption of Retired Research Animals

I am a concerned constituent in your district and urge your support for SB 121/HB 146 (Sen. West, Rep. Minjarez), relating to the adoption of certain retired research animals.

I firmly believe that whenever possible animals should get a chance at a normal home life after what they have endured in testing for our products, drugs, and curiosities.

This act simply facilitates a relationship between Texas research laboratories and registered non-profit rescue organizations so that when an experiment ends and animals are no longer needed, they are given a chance of life after the lab.

I firmly believe that whenever possible animals should get a chance at a normal home life after what they have endured in testing for our products, drugs, and curiosities.

This act simply facilitates a relationship between Texas research laboratories and registered non-profit rescue organizations so that when an experiment ends and animals are no longer needed, they are given a chance of life after the lab.

Currently there are no federal or state laws that cover the post-research treatment of these animals. In the last five years nine states, including California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, and Rhode Island, have all passed similar legislation resulting in many animals adopted into loving families.

Please support SB 121/HB 146 when it comes before you. It embodies compassion and common sense. These animals are no different than our own family companion animals and as a taxpayer who funds much of this research, I would like to see them properly cared for.

This law would proudly set a new gold standard for research ethics and animal welfare.

Please vote for the adoption of research animals, SB 121/HB 146. Lives are literally depending on it.
